Simulated Working Environment (SWE)



What is the SWE?


This one-day learning experience is an excellent example of how through standard work; teamwork, communication and collaboration, a team can become significantly more productive and cost effective whilst improving quality and identifying as well as reducing safety issues.

This will ensure the needs of very different types of employers and very different levels of work, across the diversity of administration or manufacturing sectors are met.

Who is this for?

This learning experience is directed at all levels of a company or Organisation, and does not require any prior knowledge or experience of Continuous Improvement or any Lean Organisational tools or techniques. Over 7000 delegates have now been trained on the SWE over the last 5 years from a wide diversity of industries and organisations including: Sabic Petro-chemical, GSK – Pharmaceutical, Siemens- power generation, KP Foods, Volvo cars -automotive, Barbour- clothing and first year mechanical students from Newcastle university.

What will I learn?

Using Caterpillar Production System (CPS) methodologies the principles & practices learnt during this hands-on, interactive session covers the following:

Delegates will have the opportunity to deploy the Lean tools and techniques learnt in scenarios set in a production environment, and then apply them back in their own organisations and environments.

Where will I learn?

Learning Centre of Light, Peterlee . This purpose built £1.8 million centre is a business and community led facility with state-of-the-art resources and equipment including Caterpillar’s unique Simulated Work Environment, along with excellent IT and classroom facilities.

What will I get?

On completion of the course, delegates will be competent in the basic tools and techniques of Lean organisation, will have confidence in their ability to identify potential improvements in their own working environments, and understand the importance of their views and opinions to the effectiveness of their business or organisation.
